About Lori McIntyre

I grew up in Orillia, Ontario, a small town surrounded by dense forests, shimmering lakes, and a rich history. In high school, I was drawn to both English and Theatre Arts, writing stories and performing on stage. When I was admitted to the BFA program in the Dance Department at York University in 1980, I was elated. Gradually, however, I came to understand that while ballet would always hold an important place in my life, it was not my vocation.

The next step became clear. During high school, I had spent my summers directing a program for children with and without autism, an experience that profoundly shaped my path. I soon found myself at the admissions office of the Faculty of Education, beginning a new journey.

This decision led to a fulfilling career as an educator, first with young children and later at the college level. For a time, building a career and raising a family took precedence. It was not until midlife that I returned more intentionally to writing. Since then, I have explored a variety of genres, each offering both challenge and deep personal satisfaction. Writing sustains me; I cannot imagine life without it.
